It’s May, already! Can you believe it??!! So much fun this 2015 that the year is whizzing by. Wooosh!!!
In the middle of all this fun, I did manage to do a few productive house tasks like, repair a sagging roof, build a second vegetable garden box, and clean out my clothes closets. The last task being the longest and most painful of all!
Despite the horror of assessing the past 5 years’ not so savvy fashion buys, . . . did I seriously think that M.C. Hammer style pants would make a come back?!!??!! , some advertising guru did a number on me because I sheepishly answer to you here, ” Yes, I did.” As I was saying, in the midst of sorting out my numbskull buys, I did manage to locate a few forgotten treasures.
One of these gems was a clutch purse, I bought long ago at Ann Taylor LOFT during one of their 40% off sale – sale. I remember paying $7.00 for it.
As I rediscovered it, it looked sort of sad and crumpled and smooshed under the heavy canvas beach totes I have amassed over the years. Poor thing, it needs a lift, I thought. So off to re-purpose this bag, I went.
I have always loved the look of feather bags. The way they move and flitter sends my heart a flutter, but when I think of where those soft puffs of fluff come from, well, the love wanes, considerably. But like most things I make, the idea of a feather purse got inside my head and just wouldn’t leave. I must have one!!!
I found a great tutorial for Embroidery Floss Feathers here and followed it. My results were not as great I had expected but they weren’t a total fail, so I persevered. Here are some pics of my feather making process:

After making these feathers, I set to decorating my bag. I had first wanted to cover the entire surface of the purse with the feathers but found that the feathers I made were a bit too stiff and wouldn’t lend themselves well to a swingy, light feather bed covering for my purse. Back to the drawing board with my craft stubborn self I went . . .

I wonder if I have another bag laying around somewhere that needs a pick me up because that was fun. While I go forage in the garage, I’ll leave you to make your own embroidery floss feathers. Besides, decoration for a bag, they would make nifty lapel pins and hair accessories.
Enjoy!
x-o,
Mona
