Happy November! Let the feasting and gobbling begin! I can already taste the stuffing, smell the baking bread and the very anticipation of a slice of pumpkin pie has me grinning silly. Plus, have you checked out the Fall Starbucks drinks for your after Thanksgiving feast caffeinated libation? Yummo!!!! My favorite is the Chestnut Praline Latte and please, do not hold the whipped cream. It’s the holidays for heaven sakes! I’ll just add an extra mile or two to my running log.
Yes, this month marks the start of great times spent with family and friends for the holidays, but it can also mean lots more scurrying about town. I’m from the point of view that even something sort of hard can be made light and breezy with the injection of whimsy. So, in that spirit, I made myself this cute little turkey spill stick cozy to get me clucking and chuckling as I do my errand running around town. Isn’t he the cutest?! I think so.

Turkey Spill Stick Crochet Cozy
Materials:
Cotton yarn in beige, brown, red, yellow, orange and chartreuse green
Size “G” crochet hook
Crochet It!
For Turkey face, start with beige yarn
Ch 2
In second chain from hook, sc 10 x
Sl to top of first ch. Fasten off. Set aside.
For Turkey body, use brown yarn
Ch 2
In second chain from hook, sc 10 x
Sl to top of first ch.
Ch 1
*Sc twice in next st, sc in next*. Repeat from * * around
Sl st to top of first ch. Fasten off. Set aside.
Make another brown body round. This one is a bit larger and has a ridge on top.
Ch 2
In second chain from hook, sc 10 x
Sl to top of first ch.
Ch 1
*Sc twice in next st, sc in next*. Repeat from * * around
Sl st to top of first ch.
Ch 1
Sc 8 x, turn.
Ch 1, sc 8 x
Fasten off.
Layer the larger brown body on the bottom with the (8 sc) made ridge at the top. Layer smaller brown circle on top with the face circle on top of the smaller brown circle. With a tapestry needle sew all three pieces together. Set aside.
For feathers
Ch 4
In second ch from hook, sl st
Ch in next st
Hdc in next st
Ch in next st
Ch 1, turn
Hdc in next st
Ch in next st
Sl st in st at top, fasten off and weave in end.
Following above instructions for feather, make 4, red, orange, yellow, and green.
When made, stitch feathers, red, orange, yellow and green to back of ridge on turkey body with needle and thread.
With black embroidery thread, stitch black eyes and orange beak on face.
Cut circle of felt to fit back of turkey and stitch on, careful to allow a space to insert spill stick at the bottom of the spill stick cozy.
Now, all you need is that Starbucks coffee drink. Gobble, gobble!
