Hello! Sometime in September, or was it October? I can’t pinpoint the time because the months after August are just a blur with back to school, new practice schedules, craft shows, planning for the fall and then the Christmas holidays . . . Holy Moly!
Well, anyways I got the idea in my head that I would teach myself to knit. I decided that my first project would be a pair of socks, which was a big, bad idea, on my part. I’ve discovered that knitting socks is not entry level but one requiring a certain amount of skill and time with the knitting needles to tackle. I haven’t entirely abandoned my dream of knitting, so, hopefully, in 2016, I’m going to learn to knit something in my skill level. Maybe a square kitchen hot pad, or something like that.
For now though, I did crochet socks, following this very easy to follow pattern, by Simple Sock Making. Here is the pattern link. This pattern has very easy to follow instructions. Plus I like the blog writer’s narrative style … conversational, light hearted with a witty observation sprinkled throughout. A winner in my book for the novice and pro!
For the pictured practice socks I stitched up, I used a fingerling weight yarn by Lions Brand I had in my stash. A pair of socks took me a while to stitch up ( 2 weeks or so ) because I’m not as quick with thin, lightweight yarn but they were worth it. Nothing like a pair of homemade, soft and snuggly socks! They will make a great gift to slip into someone’s holiday stocking or a gift for yourself!!
Enjoy!
x-o,
Mona
